Event Fanwork Requirements and Expectations
Creating for Sonic Supernova means you agree you will promptly respond to moderators on check-in dates—we will post a Check-in Requirements wiki entry after the primary creation period begins.
General requirements for event works
Event works can be rated up to M (Mature)
🚫 Only participants aged 18 or older can create mature-rated work for Supernova; no explicit-rated works can be posted for the event
This means that adult topics can be depicted in the fanwork, e.g. violence, nudity, or sex, but cannot be depicted in explicit detail, e.g. a fade-to-black instead of detailing a sex scene.
Must have appropriate content warnings
Other than the mature-rating rule, we do not restrict what topics a work can feature so long as it is tagged appropriately. So long as you give others fair warning of what your work features, you are allowed to create whatever work you wish.
Expectations for a Sonic Supernova work
🗓️ Sonic Supernova has a 4 to 6 month long creation period
What we can provide as a solid figure is that fanfiction pieces must be a minimum of 5,000 words long.
For pieces other than fanfiction, since we are allowing many kinds of works alongside fanfiction and fanart, it isn't easy to give a universal standard on what counts as a large enough and completed work for the event.
Examples of works of a suitable scale
- A detailed and large digital painting
- A multiple-page fan comic
- A voiced radio drama or long podfic
- A detailed fan animatic or animation
Examples of works of an unsuitable scale
- Flash fictions or short stories
- A fanart sketch you could make in an afternoon
- A voice sample lasting a minute
What to do if you don't know if your idea is suitable
Please remember that if you are unsure if you have an idea that other creators could build off of, you can:
- Sign up as a supporting creator
- Ask your friends
- Ask a moderator
Stay in touch to remain part of the event!
Alongside obeying the rules and code of conduct for our event generally, we also require that participants follow expectations regarding communicating with moderators. This includes filling in event check-in forms and responding to moderator communication in a timely manner. If you do not respond to check-ins or moderator communication for a week, your role as a creator in the event will be revoked.
